Throw out the Ketchum incumbents

Across the country, newspapers and pundits decry an ever-growing income disparity, generally pointing to greedy bankers, financial wizards and company execs who are making out like bandits, while the rest of us have experienced nothing but decline in real earnings.
I say, “Wake up, Blaine County”—it’s happening right here, and it’s not “the usual suspects” getting rich, it’s our tax money that is being squandered in scandalous fashion.
One has only to look at the front page of the Oct. 11 Mountain Express: a $600,000 separation package for our departing school superintendent? This is only the most recent, and most glaring, slap in the face of taxpayers.
Look no further than some of Ketchum’s employees: very generous salaries, plus housing allowances, plus insurance coverage that we mere mortals could only dream of, plus retirement benefits—all doled out by elected officials who seem to have no concept of how the average taxpayer gets by. When was the last time they actually detailed, and justified, what they really hand out in perks and combined compensation packages?
If you are a hard-working Blaine County resident, trying to keep a business afloat during tough times, or working two jobs just to make ends meet, and believe me, there are plenty of us around, I urge you to register to vote, go to the polls this November and throw the incumbents out of office. It’s high time for some fresh faces, new ideas and people who can restore our belief that this system is not just for those closest to the trough.
