Meet the candidates in Ketchum, SV

Pizza and Politics forums set for Oct. 23, Oct. 24

By EXPRESS STAFF

Seven candidates vying for seats on the Ketchum City Council will talk about their campaigns and discuss issues at a Pizza and Politics forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the nextStage Theatre in Ketchum.
Then, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, three candidates campaigning for seats on the Sun Valley City Council will convene in a Pizza and Politics forum at Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge.
Pizza and Politics provides an opportunity for the public and local media to learn about candidates’ political platforms and question them about their plans, if chosen for public office. The event is organized and sponsored by the Idaho Mountain Express.
The Express will buy the pizza, while the public needs to bring their questions. Press and public attending should note that questions cannot specifically address one candidate but must be answerable by all candidates.
In Ketchum, six challengers have stepped up to run for City Council seats now held by Baird Gourlay and Nina Jonas. Gourlay will run for his fourth term on the council, while Jonas has decided to leave her council seat to focus on her campaign for mayor, running against incumbent Randy Hall.
Of the six challengers, three of them are making their first runs at office. The three first-time candidates are Ketchum Community Library Information Systems Director Aaron Pearson, senior editor at Concierge Q Brennan Rego and attorney Amanda Breen. Ski instructor and hairdresser Anne Corrock is making her third run for City Council, while longtime Ketchum resident Mickey Garcia has made several unsuccessful runs for public office in Ketchum. Ketchum Planning and Zoning Commission Chairwoman Deborah Burns is making her second run for City Council.
The non-partisan Pizza and Politics forums will begin with introductory speeches given by each candidate. Then reporters will be given a chance to ask questions, followed by questions from other audience members.
Candidates will also be able to ask one question of their competitors. The events will end with 30-second closing statements from each political hopeful.
The events will be moderated by Idaho Mountain Express Editor Greg Foley.
