Blaine County Coroner Russell Mikel has determined that a 66-year-old man who was found dead Monday morning near the Blaine County Annex building in Hailey died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Mikel identified the victim on Tuesday as Hailey resident Ned Gibowski.
Hailey police Lt. Steve England said the shooting occurred sometime early Monday morning and that Gibowski was found at about 11:10 a.m. in his vehicle, a small black Toyota pickup, parked near the annex building on First Avenue. He said Gibowski lived about four blocks away.
The man’s name was not released until Tuesday after next of kin were notified.
Even before the coroner’s pronouncement, police believed the death was from suicide.
“All indications are that it’s a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” England said Monday.
England said the investigation determined that Gibowski was suffering from a terminal illness.
