Regarding taxes, we’re not Jackson

Here in Ketchum, the Sun Valley Marketing Alliance and the Fly Sun Valley Alliance quite often compare this area to Jackson Hole in order to justify raising the sales tax to fund their, at times, ill-conceived plans. They often state that Jackson Hole subsidizes the airlines, as if the residents are funding it through their taxes.
However, Wyoming has a 4 percent sales tax and a 1 percent local sales tax, with a cap of 5 percent total. In Ketchum, we presently have a 6 percent sales tax and a 2 percent local option tax. The state will raise the sales tax to 7 percent and the local option tax proposal will rise to 3 percent, if the residents vote for it. That will give a total of 10 percent, double the Jackson Hole sales tax total.
So, it would be illogical for the citizens of Ketchum to vote for such high taxes. You see, Jackson Hole must be doing something right if the SVMA and FSVA constantly say that we should follow their example. But, what Jackson Hole is doing right is not constantly badgering their citizens for money.     They must be doing something else right. If the SVMA and the FSVA want to compare the areas, they should state that we are being taxed double what the residents of Jackson Hole are taxed!
