Friends plan golf benefits for Hunter Storey

Oct. 12 at Sun Valley

     Hunter Storey, 27, of Ketchum, a 2004 Wood River High School graduate, has been diagnosed with a cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the Seattle, Wash. area.

     To help Storey cope with medical and living expenses while he’s unable to work, friends have organized a benefit scramble golf tournament at Sun Valley Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 12. The day will include a silent auction and raffle at Sun Valley Club.

     Storey, son of Gary and Janis Storey, is an active skier, golfer and soccer player who grew up in the valley and participated on ski teams. This past winter he woke up with a pain in his shin that further examination determined was Ewing’s, a childhood cancer that usually affects those ages 10 to 20.

     The 18-hole benefit golf tournament will have an 11 a.m. shotgun start on Oct. 12. Cost is $75 per person or $300 per team, or $50 for Sun Valley season pass holders. There will also be an 18-hole putt-putt tournament for all ages at 2 p.m., cost $20 per team.

     Ketchum’s Cornerstone Bar & Grill will hold a “Guest Bartender Night,” on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 5-7:30 p.m. Raffle tickets (5 for $20, 12 for $50, 25 for $100) will be sold that night, also on Oct. 4-5 at Atkinsons’ in Ketchum and on Oct. 12 during the golf tournament events.

     Tax-deductible donations will be accepted by cash or check only, made out to Bald Mountain Rescue Fund in Benefit of Hunter Storey, P.O. Box 370, Ketchum, ID 83340. Call the golf shop at 622-2251 for details.
