Willard Roy “Bud” Stephens


    W.R., Willard Roy “Bud” Stephens, 89, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2013, at his home in Boise.
He was born in Kimball, Neb., on April 17, 1924, the son of Willard Washington and Gladys Knerr Stephens. The family moved to north Idaho where he attended school in Coeur d’Alene,  graduating in 1942. He married Anita Carolyn Hunter on Sept. 27, 1945. They lived in Mackey, Pocatello and Blackfoot where they had two boys, Leonard and Martin.
    Bud was an avid amateur radio operator and at one time held the position of state coordinator for the Navy Mars affiliate radio network. He worked as a bus driver and later as an electronics technician at the INEL site. Later the family moved to Hailey, where Bud went to work for Sun Systems, an electronics firm based in Ketchum.
    Bud was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. Later in life he traded the hunting rifle for a telephoto lens and a camera.  He and Anita spent hours and days exploring and shooting wildlife pictures around central Idaho.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita.  He is survived by his brother, Richard Stephens, and his two sons, Leonard and Martin Stephens.
   A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at Boise Funeral Home, Aclesa Chapel, 8209 W. Fairview Ave. in Boise.
