‘My Fair Lady’

Classic musical at the nexStage Theatre

    One of the golden classics of American musicals, “My Fair Lady,” will be presented at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum from Thursday, Oct. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 20.
   Curtain is 7 p.m. all four nights with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the evening shows, matinees are offered on Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20, with curtain at 2 p.m. and the doors open at 1:30 p.m.
   The musical is produced by the Family Main Stage program from St. Thomas Playhouse, a performing arts organization for the entire community, and is ideal for all ages.
   “My Fair Lady” tells the story of a poor Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, in early 20th century London who is transformed into a true British lady trained to speak perfect King’s English by the brilliant but selfish professor Henry Higgins. All will enjoy the poignancy and humor of the show along with the brilliant songs, such as “Rain In Spain,” “With A Little Bit of Luck,” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face.”
   The performance on Friday, Oct. 18, is a Gala Benefit for the Bilkey Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition support for children and teens who attend St. Thomas Playhouse’s performing arts camps and programs.
   An array of food and libations will be served before the show and a selection of several desserts will be offered during intermission.

Fun fact
“My Fair Lady” is a musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s 1912 play “Pygmalion,” which had played successfully on Broadway from 1956 to 1962. Shaw’s plot was derived from Latin poet Ovid’s story (in the “Metamorphoses”) about a character named Pygmalion who fell in love with a beautiful ivory statue of a woman.
