Sad occasion to lose Blaine Manor

This is a sad week for the Wood River Valley, for we are losing one of our most precious assets, Blaine Manor. Anyone who has sought this type of care knows how difficult it is in the “for-profit world” to find the humane and compassionate care for loved ones that Blaine Manor provided.

One wonders why those responsible for this decision ignored the will of the people, as reflected by the majority with which each requested levy was passed, and why the citizens of Blaine County were denied the privilege of voting on a matter of such importance to us. It is also curious why the people, myself included, did not rise up in more numbers to insist on a greater voice in the matter. After all, we all might be in need of such a facility one day.

We can but hope for the best and offer our sincere thanks to all those, past and present, who provided the wonderful standard of care that made Blaine Manor so special.
