Why don’t businesses help pay for air service?

Few reasonable people question that improved air service to our valley will help valley businesses, raising, as one recent letter said, all boats with its tide. And, few can question that small resort areas like ours must use minimum-revenue guarantees to support good air service.
What many of us do question, and never get a good answer for, is why is a locally imposed tax is the best way to fund MRGs? If business will thrive with improved air service, why won’t the business community step up and prove that this is the case by funding the MRGs for the first three years? No one who supports this LOT, it seems, can (or will) explain why it is the best funding source. How about a letter in the paper from someone at the Fly Sun Valley Alliance, explaining why a tax is a better funding source than a collective effort by business owners? An answer before the elections would be greatly appreciated.
