SV Youth Hockey golf scramble at Bigwood
    Winning the Sun Valley Youth Hockey fundraising golf scramble Friday at Bigwood Golf Course was the foursome of Beau Burks, Preston Ziegler, Shawn Aicher and Jim Hop-kins at 7-under-par. They won a chip-off with the team of John Lee, Jamie Everitt, Scott MacGuffie and Kurt Funk-houser.
    Long drive prize winner was Dave Hausmann. Closest to the pin champs were Steph Rowley (9 inches) and Michael Bulls (20 inches). In the raffle, Vilnis Nikolaisons won the 2013-14 season ski pass and “Crosby” took the $1,000 Atkinsons’ Market gift card.

Middle school runners com-pete at Bob Firman
    Seven middle school run-ners from Wood River and the Community School crossed the finish line in the 3-kilometer race of the Bob Firman Invita-tional footraces Saturday, Sept. 21 at Eagle Island State Park west of Boise. Here are overall placings and times with school abbreviations for the runners:
    Girls: 15—Kirsys Campbell (WRMS) 12:24. 57—Anna Bern-baum (WR) 13:31. 59—Lauren Roberts (WRMS) 13:36 (255 girls finishing).
    Boys: 7—Henry Raff (CS) 10:53 (1:07 back). 68—Jaren Bothwell (CS) 12:49. 74—Chris-tian Bothwell (CS) 12:58. 183—Joe Hall (CS) 15:49 (228 boys fin-ishing).

Wood River baseball, soft-ball meeting Oct. 21
    Wood River Baseball and Softball Association (WRBSA) will hold its annual meeting and goal-setting discussion on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center room at Hailey’s Wood River High School. Fights Friday in Bellevue
    USA Grappling Academy holds a fight night Friday, Sept. 27 starting at 7 p.m. at 713 N. Main St., Bellevue. Action is open to all ages and skill levels, headgear and boxing gloves provided. Admission for spec-tators is $10. Sign up at 720-3519.

Beginning skating and ice hockey classes start Friday
    The Sun Valley Figure Skat-ing Club offers group lessons for children new to the ice and also for advanced beginners. Fall session starts Friday, Sept. 27. Classes are available for Beginners age 4-and-up. Ad-vanced Basic Skills and Begin-ning Hockey Skating Skills classes are also available. Middle school runners at Magic Mountain
    Wood River Middle School cross country runners traveled to Magic Mountain south of Twin Falls last week for the 15th annual Kimberly Invita-tional meet.
    Leading the Hailey boys was Landon Nurge (4th place, 11:21 on the 1.5-mile course) and Dane Thompson (9th, 11:50). Others on the Wood River boys’ team that placed fourth overall were Hunter Barrow (12:09), Carter Gerringa (13:04), Tyler Beck (13:09), Jorgen Lawrence (13:43) and James Cantrell (13:49). The Wolverine girls were fifth overall with Ellie Gorham (15:10), Emma Flolo (15:47), Karsyn Gerringa (16:56), Marina Vercelli (20:31) and Ali Barney (20:41).
