Relay wins boost WRHS swimmers

At Pocatello meet

Wood River High School’s girls swim team dominated Saturday’s 12-team Pocatello Invitational meet staged at Idaho State University’s Reed Pool and are now setting their sights on the Twin Falls Invita-tional Saturday, Oct. 12.
At Pocatello the Wolverine girls captured all three relays. They were 200 medley (sopho-more Ashley Dreyfus, junior Kaedi Fry, freshman Chiloe Spelius and sophomore Olivia Wentzell); 200 free (freshman Katherine Lemma, Wentzell, Dreyfus, and Fry); and 400 free (sophomore Maddie Johnson, Wentzell, Spelius, and Fry).
Earning two first places in individual races were Fry (200 I.M./500 free) and Johnson (200 free/100 back). Wentzell placed first in 100 breast and second in 100 free. Spelius won 100 free and was second in 50 free.
Other best top-10s: Senior Mia Smith 5th-100 back; senior Lisa Hart 5th-500 free; senior Addy Gage 4th-100 free; Dreyfus 2nd-500 free; Lemma 2nd-100 breast; and freshman Danielle Doerflein 5th-100 breast.
The three Wood River boys held their own in a competitive division and finished a re-spectable fifth as a team. Best individual finishes were Logan Johnson 2nd-500 free, Brandon Yagla, 5th-50 free/100 free and Luke Verst 3rd-100 breast.
