Time to support local businesses

I read the plan proposed by Len and Carol Harlig to help stimulate the local economy due to loss of business during the time of the Beaver Creek Fire.
I think it is commendable and very generous on their part and it will help. I also think it is a time to consider how many times in a year the local businesses are asked to donate to local causes and charity events. They have come up with donations of merchandise, discounts, food, dinners, gift items and cash when asked and they are asked a lot, make no mistake about it. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a whole day set aside either this month or in October where we only patronize and support locally. We could make the effort of going out at least once that time for a meal or shop for gifts for coming events or stock up on gift cards. We could make it a point to go to the Gold Mine or Barkin’ Basement to either donate or buy something we can use but may not really need.
There are so many things and it would be payback in appreciation for their generosity in the past, and in our case it would also be a way to pay it forward.
I would suspect the merchants or recipients of 100 percent local support for a given day would find ways of “paying it forward” one more time themselves by offering specials and discounts of their own.
Could we give it a thought?
