Former employee sues Sun Valley Co.

Woman alleges violation of her civil rights

Express Staff Writer

A former Sun Valley Co. employee filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the company in federal court in Boise alleging that her civil rights were violated when she was terminated from employment in 2012.
Ann Erickson, who was employed with the Sun Valley Ski School for 35 years, also alleges in her complaint that Sun Valley Co. engaged in disability and age discrimination and provided a hostile work environment.
The complaint, filed on Erickson’s behalf by the Boise law firm of Strindberg & Scholnick, states that Sun Valley Co. violated either federal or state law in its treatment and termination of Erickson. Specially, the complaint alleges violation of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, the federal Age Discrimination and Employment Act and the Idaho Human Rights Act.
Erickson is seeking unspecified monetary damages, and/or reinstatement as an employee. She further demands in the complaint that the case be heard by a jury.
Erickson alleges in her complaint that starting in 2008 she was subjected to sexual harassment in the ski school and that company officials did nothing to address her complaints. Instead, she alleges that she was subjected to retaliation, by being denied promotion and eventually being fired following a skiing accident in 2012.
The complaint states that Erickson is seeking back pay, compensation for lost benefits, compensation for emotional distress, punitive damages and attorney fees.
Sun Valley Co. had not been served with the complaint as of Thursday. A telephone call requesting comment to company spokesman Jack Sibbach was not returned to the Idaho Mountain Express by press deadline Thursday.
