Blaine County Title Codgers going to softball nationals
Not many softball players are still playing when they reach 65. But Ketchum’s Bob Sarchett, 69, takes batting practice nearly every day in the summer. The practice paid off over Labor Day in Boise.
First baseman/catcher Sarchett batted 16-for-23 (.696) helping the Blaine County Title “Codgers” 65-and-over men to the championship of the Idaho Senior Games men’s softball tournament held Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Boise. The Codgers went 6-0, beating the Copper Gang from Salt Lake City, Utah in the final. Most of the “Codgers” came from Boise.
The win qualified the 13-player “Codgers” squad for national slow-pitch softball Sept. 30-Oct. 3 at Las Vegas, Nev. Sarchett said the team is basically the same as the squad that won nationals in 2005 and 2009. In late July, the “Codgers” won a Bend (Ore.) Senior Classic with six wins in six games.
