Valley Club crowns its golf champions

     The Valley Club staged its 18th annual Men’s and Women’s Club Championships Friday through Sunday, Sept. 6-8.

     Format was match play, without handicaps. Men played from championship gold tees and the women from the men’s white tees.

     Carmen Bradley became the first player in a single year to win the Valley Club’s President’s Cup, Senior Club Championships and Club Championship. Suzanne Williams clinched her eighth club championship title for the women.

     In the 11-player Men’s Bracket, Latham Williams won a semi-final match on the 20th hole over defending club champion Neil Bradshaw. In the other semi-final, Bradley defeated former club champion Dave Cropper 2 & 1. Quarterfinalists were Baird Gourlay, Kurt Funkhouser, John Galgano and Whit Atkinson.

     Suzanne Williams was a 3 & 1 winner over Marilyn Celano in the women’s final. Semi-finalists were Laurinne McGowan and Elma Cannavino.

 

Senior Club championships

     Carmen Bradley successfully defended his Men’s Senior Division title and Marilyn Celano won the Women’s Senior Division crown as The Valley Club completed its 36-hole Senior Club Championships on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

     Bradley and Celano are this year’s Valley Club Men’s and Women’s Senior Club champions. Bradley (73-79 for 152) won the Men’s Senior Division (ages 55-69) gross stroke title by a single shot over Dave Cropper (80-73 for 153). Celano shot 75-82 for 157 to nail down her win.

     Mike Quinn and Elma Cannavino won the Senior Division net championships.

     Super Senior (ages 70-and-up) men’s winners were Bob McCollum (gross) and Blair Hull (net). The women’s winners were Gundl Haskell (gross) and Sandra Fisher (net).

     Here are top scores for the Sept. 3-4 stroke play event:

     · Men’s Senior DivisionGross: 1—Carmen Bradley 73-79 for 152. 2—Dave Cropper 80-73 for 153. 3 (tie)—Sean Terry 79-84 for 163 and John Wolcott 81-82 for 163. Net: 1—Mike Quinn 75-70 for 145. 2—Jay Cassell 71-76 for 147. 3—Baird Gourlay 77-75 for 152. 4—Jim Cannavino 77-76 for 153.

     · Women’s Senior DivisionGross: 1—Marilyn Celano 75-82 for 157. Net: 1—Elma Cannavino 77-76 for 153.

     · Men’s Super Senior DivisionGross: 1—Bob McCollum 83-79 for 162. 2 (tie)—Jerry Boas 82-81 for 163 and Tift Mann 87-76 for 163. 4—Dick Toomey 89-78 for 167. Net: 1—Blair Hull 66-73 for 139. 2 (tie)—Jim Luckman 72-71 for 143 and Dick Shelton 73-70 for 143. 4—Edward Karner 73-75 for 148.

     · Women’s Super Senior Division—Gross: 1—Gundl Haskell 97-94 for 191. 2—Carolyn Benson 98-99 for 197. Net: 1—Sandra Fisher 80-75 for 155. 2—Barbara Shelton 79-77 for 156.
