Bake sale for Bellevue resident fighting cancer
    Bonnie Kessler has been fighting hard to survive cancer and enjoy her grandchildren. To help with expenses, there will be a bake sale Saturday, Sept. 14, at Atkinsons’ Market in Bellevue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    All proceeds go towards her mounting medical expenses.

Support pond restoration project
    To show support and appreciation for the efforts of The Nature Conservancy of Idaho at the Silver Creek Preserve, a valleywide guide/outfitter support day has been established for the week of Sept. 16-20.
    The Kilpatrick/Purdy Pond Restoration Project is considered of vital importance for the long-term health of Silver Creek. Silver Creek is a prized site for the fly-fishing community; guides and outfitters rely heavily on this blue-ribbon fishery.
    Beginning Sept. 16, all participating guides and outfitters will make one or more days’ donation of their guide fees to the restoration efforts of The Nature Conservancy at the Silver Creek Preserve.

Meals on Wheels
    Support the Senior Connection in Hailey by joining in the fourth annual Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. to raise funds for the organization’s Meal on Wheels program.  
    This event is open to all ages. There will be raffle prizes and a barbecue lunch after the event.

Trailing of the Sheep
seeking volunteers
    The Trailing of the Sheep Festival is seeking people to donate time, energy and/or experience in a variety of areas, including: set-up, welcoming visitors and selling food or merchandise. The festival is scheduled for Oct. 10-13.
    Volunteers help provide visitors memorable experiences in sustainability, cultural history, entertainment, appreciation of the land and the love of lamb.

Beaver Creek Fire
    The Environmental Resource Center and Idaho Conservation League will celebrate the forces of nature during the October gallery walk by sharing photographic images of the Beaver Creek Fire.
    The first 30 submissions will be displayed on a first-come, first-shown basis and may be declined if they don’t fit the genre appropriately. A completed submission form and the work must be delivered to the ERC at 471 N. Washington St. in Ketchum by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

    Artists and the general public are invited to the exhibition Friday, Oct. 11, at the ERC office from 5-8 p.m.

Volunteer training offered for work with terminally ill or bereaved
    Hospice work is considered a “special way of caring” for people in this community who are terminally ill or bereaved. The Hospice & Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley is preparing for the fall by training new volunteers.
    A 20-hour course will begin on Sept. 16 and conclude Sept.  28. Sessions will include the hospice concept, the team approach to care, death and dying, communication skills, caregiving, disease processes, safety in the home and transfer skills, spiritual care, grief, and loss and bereavement issues.
