Knife River again?

    After reading, and re-reading your article, “Knife River awarded airport contract”, I was reminded of this quote from Winston Churchill: “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
   I am simply amazed that we continue to use this system of awarding contracts for vital public works to the “lowest bidder.” I am wondering what in the world it would take, if not 41 lawsuits, to disqualify a company from having their bid considered? Maybe, past experience with the product that that company delivered, like the two tries it took to get the highway between East Fork and Hospital Drive done (and has since been ripped out for the new highway project.
   I live in Woodside and have personal experience with Knife River’s work. I am not a fan. I think we need to reconsider this process when a $2.27 million contract is awarded to a company with a questionable record in our valley—especially when the next lowest bid was reported to be merely $3,882 more. I think our tax dollars and future probable highway levy dollars should be spent more wisely. Considering how vitally important the airport is to the life of our valley, I hope Knife River brings its best effort.
