A jury trial has been scheduled to begin on Jan. 7, 2014, for a 30-year-old Hailey man who is accused of shooting another man in Hailey in mid-July.
Adam Keith Boyd pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of aggravated battery at arraignment Tuesday in Blaine County 5th District Court.
In another development, Judge Robert J. Elgee has been disqualified from hearing the case because of a motion to disqualify filed in August by the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors filed the motion “without cause,” a legal provision that allows them to not explain their reasons. The case has now been assigned to Judge Jonathan P. Brody, who normally presides over 5th District Court in Minidoka County.

Also on Tuesday, Brody denied a bond reduction motion filed on Boyd’s behalf by Hailey attorney Keith Roark, who has been assigned as public defender. Boyd remains incarcerated in the Blaine County jail on $75,000 bond.
The case against Boyd arose the evening of July 13 near the intersection of Main and Myrtle streets in Hailey. Boyd is accused of shooting 29-year-old Anthony Parsons, of Hailey, during an altercation in and near the parking lot at the Subway sandwich shop.
Roark suggested at an earlier court hearing in Blaine County Magistrate Court that his client acted in self-defense. Parsons testified at the same hearing that he was not the aggressor and was shot while he was trying to disarm Boyd.
