Solid trip for Cutthroat soccer in league debut

Girls win 9-0, boys tie 1-1

“We’re off to a good start!” said Community School girls’ soccer coach Kelly Feldman about Tuesday’s trip to Buhl for the season-opening Cutthroat girls’ game.

Senior Hannah Dies (1 assist) drilled a three-goal hat trick as the Cutthroats debuted their 15-game season with a 9-0 High Desert Soccer Conference triumph over host Buhl on the Tribe soccer pitch.

Hayley Murach, another of Feldman’s eight seniors, added two goals and sophomore Hannah Conn tallied her first two varsity scores. Single goals came from Whitney Engelmann (2 assists) and Lilly Jenner.

The Cutthroat girls (1-0-0, 1-0-0 league) travel to Declo Thursday, Sept. 5 for a 4:30 p.m. league game and then go to Bliss Friday, Sept. 6.

Coach Richard Whitelaw’s Cutthroat boys were pleased to come away with a 1-1 HDSC league tie against Buhl since junior Roger Figge equalized with less than 10 minutes remaining. Buhl led 1-0 at half.

“It was a tough game, as expected, and a great point for us,” said Whitelaw. The coach’s “Man of the Match” was sophomore Keegan Whitelaw.

The Cutthroat boys (2-0-1, 0-0-1 league) travel to Declo Thursday, Sept. 5 for a 6 p.m. league game and then go to Bliss Friday, Sept. 6. Also on the schedule is a junior varsity game at Jerome on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
