Motorists to get a break from road construction

Work on H-75 to be suspended for 4 days

    Travelers between Hailey and Ketchum will get a break from construction on state Highway 75, not for three days, but for four days for Labor Day weekend.
   “We’re going to close it down on Friday and we won’t be starting it up again until Tuesday,” said Tom Logan, project coordinator for the Idaho Transportation Department. “With the circumstances and the heavy traffic, we’re including Friday in it this year.”
   An ITD news release states that the agency suspends highway construction throughout the state on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. The suspensions are typically for three days. There are exceptions, such as if the road is already closed and traffic is using another designated route, or if an emergency situation, such as flooding, arises.
   The news release states that if contractors want to work through the weekend that they can conduct off-road work but are not allowed to do work that impacts traffic.
   The Highway 75 work involves widening a 3.25-mile section of the highway from Timber Way just north of East Fork Road to the bridge over the Big Wood River near St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. Once finished, likely in the spring of 2014, the section of highway will have two lanes in both directions plus central turning lanes and deceleration lanes at major intersections.
