Florida man injured in crash near Galena

Sheriff?s Office investigating cause of single-vehicle accident

    The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating to see if alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle accident on state Highway 75 south of Galena Summit early Saturday evening that led to a Pensacola, Fla., man being flown by emergency helicopter to a Boise hospital.
    Sheriff’s Capt. Curtis Miller said Monday that Henry B. Rathert, 42, suffered “numerous abrasions” in the accident and was most likely taken to Boise as a precautionary measure. Rathert was not listed as a patient Tuesday at either Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center or St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center.
    Miller said the accident occurred at about 6 p.m. about three miles south of Galena Summit. He said Rathert, driving a red 2014 Ford Fiesta, was southbound when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve, traveled about 140 feet on the shoulder of the road, struck a guardrail and slid along the guardrail for about 70 feet before rolling down an embankment.
    “It’s believed that alcohol was involved,” Miller said, adding that police had received two reports just prior to the accident of a red car being driven recklessly in the area.
