Sentencing has been delayed in a felony injury-to-a-child case against a 20-year Bellevue man.
Judge Robert J. Elgee granted the continuance Monday for Christopher Walter Downhill in Blaine County 5th District Court. Public defender Christopher Simms requested a continuance, explaining the judge that his client needs to undergo surgery for a leg injury.
Elgee scheduled a status hearing for Sept. 9.
Downhill pleaded guilty to the charge in June. He was originally charged with rape against a 14-year-old girl in Bellevue.
The rape charge was filed against Downhill in September of 2012. A criminal complaint filed against him alleged that Downhill had consensual sexual intercourse with the girl in June 2012. A probable-cause affidavit filed by Bellevue Marshal Larry Clark states that the alleged sex act wasn’t reported to the girl’s parents until September of that year.
Downhill has remained free after posting $15,000 bond a few days after he was charged.
