Three challengers have declared their candidacy for Nils Ribi’s and Bob Youngman’s seats on the Sun Valley City Council. Keith Saks, Peter Hendricks and Steve Poindexter have filed paperwork to be on the ballot. Youngman has also filed to run for re-election.
The filing deadline is Sept. 6. Ribi has announced he will not run for re-election.
The two candidates with the most votes on Nov. 5 will win the seats.
Saks is a member of the Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission. He has worked as an attorney, arbitrator, real estate broker and certified professional mediator. Currently, Saks serves as a volunteer mediator for Blaine County 5th District Court. He also volunteers for the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley and for Higher Ground, a nonprofit organization that helps disabled people enjoy outdoor sports.

The Sun Valley City Council elections will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Hendricks is also involved in Sun Valley city government, as a member of the comprehensive plan update steering committee. He moved to Sun Valley in 2000 as a part-time resident, and became a full-time resident in 2008, after working in the institutional investment field for more than four decades, as an asset manager and on the brokerage side. His wife, Lisa-Marie Allen, is a figure skating coach at the Sun Valley Ice Rink and was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic figure skating team. Hendricks spent four years in the Air Force after graduating from Notre Dame.
Poindexter will be running for a council seat for the third time, after losing bids in 2009 and 2011. Poindexter serves as a precinct committeeman for the 2nd District of the Blaine County Republican Party. He also holds a part-time job at Veltex convenience store in Ketchum, and was the website administrator for the Blaine County Republican Party website.
Born in Atlanta, Ga., Poindexter moved to Jacksonville, Fla., in 1991. In 2012, he attended the Republican National Convention as a guest. He has worked seasonal positions as a front desk clerk at Sun Valley Resort and at Yellowstone National Park. He has a website describing his visions, promises, beliefs, biography, work history and voting record.
Youngman, the incumbent, is a former physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He has served on the council since 2009.
The Sun Valley City Council elections will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
