Cyclists push up Bogus Basin climb

Feldman is runner-up


     Wood River Valley cyclists captured three first-place age class finishes and two seconds at the 41st annual Bogus Basin Hill Climb Saturday, Aug. 17 on a 14.5-mile course with 3,500 feet of climbing near Boise.

     Gold medalists in a field of 205 finishers were Richard Feldman (Men’s 40-44), Dan Daigh (Men’s 60-69) and John Swyers (Men’s 70-plus). Placing second were Susan Thoreson (Women’s 50-59) and Tom Campion (Men’s 70-plus).

     They were among nine Wood River cyclists among 171 male and 34 female finishers. Feldman, 44, of Ketchum finished second overall in 54:18 behind 17-year-old William Barta (54:16) of the Boise Young Rider Development Squad (BYRDS).

     Former Ketchum-based endurance athlete Michael Tobin placed sixth overall and won the Men’s 45-49 class in 55:30. Daigh placed 25th overall in 1.03:45. Women’s winner was Sarah Barber, 37, of Boise, 38th overall in 1.05:27.

     Other local results starting with overall placings:

     53—Kris Thoreson 1.07:32 (6th Men’s 50-59, 0:23 time improvement). 74—Scott Grill 1.10:10 (10th Men’s 50-59, 1:01 time improvement). 102—Mike Long 1.14:19 (18th Men’s 50-59). 141—Susan Thoreson 1.23:34 (14th woman). 162—John Swyers 1.29:09. 184—Tom Campion 1.37:24 (16:42 time improvement).
