A jury trial has been scheduled for Oct. 11 in Ada County for a former attorney in Blaine County who was charged earlier this month with driving under the influence in Boise.
According to court records, James Russell Donoval, 54, who now resides in Eagle, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge in Ada County Magistrate Court on Aug. 15. He is currently free on $500 bond. Court records state that he is represented by Boise attorney Randall Scott Barnum.
Boise police released the following statement regarding Donoval’s arrest:
“The driver failed field sobriety tests
and was arrested on suspicion of
driving under the influence.”

“A Boise officer on patrol witnessed the driver of a vehicle driving in the center turn lane and straddling the dash lane lines in the westbound lanes of West State Street Friday, Aug. 9, at 1:56 a.m. The officer stopped the vehicle. In speaking with the driver, identified as Donoval, the officer noticed the odor of alcoholic beverage.
“The officer is a member of the Boise Police Night STEP team, a team of officers who specialize in detection of possible DUI drivers. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. A blood draw was done at the Ada County Jail for evidence testing. The suspect was booked into the jail on the above charge.”
In 2010, Donoval ran unsuccessfully as a Republican against Michelle Stennett for the Idaho State Senate.
The husband of former Sun Valley City Administrator Sharon Hammer, Donoval and/or Hammer are now involved in multiple lawsuits involving the city of Sun Valley, former Sun Valley employees and current Sun Valley officials.
