Kimmie Meissner at ice show Aug. 24

2006 world champion

Maryland native Kimmie Meissner, 23, the 2006 world women’s figure skating champion, has been added to the Sun Valley on Ice schedule as the headliner of the Aug. 24 show.

It’s the eighth of nine shows on the summer ice show schedule that also features two-time national champion Alissa Czisny, 26, on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Johnny Weir, 28, the 2008 world bronze medalist, for the Aug. 31 season finale.

Seven years ago, 2006 Olympian Meissner became one of the few skaters to win a world title before winning a national championship. She finished sixth at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, then won the world championship a month later.

Meissner captured her first and only U.S. national title, in 2007. Injuries derailed her competitive career after 2009 and she turned to show skating.

Tickets are now on sale at the Sun Valley Recreation Office, 622-2135. Tickets may be purchased online at sunvalley.ticketfly.com. All seating is reserved and advance reservations are recommended.
