Comments sought on grazing plan
   The BLM is seeking public comment on issues that it should analyze regarding an amendment to its grazing plan at Craters of the Moon National Monument. Comment deadline is Aug. 23.
   The BLM manages 285,000 acres of the monument’s 750,000 acres. Following a lawsuit by Western Watersheds Project, a federal judge in November ordered the agency to consider no-grazing and reduced-grazing alternatives to its land-use plan there.
   The BLM is beginning its scoping process for the amendment.
   Comments can be mailed to Shoshone Field Office, 400 W. F St., Shoshone, ID 83352, emailed to BLM_ID_CRMO@blm.gov or faxed to 208-732-7317.

Hunters can exchange tags in fire closure areas
   With the archery season for elk in the Smoky Mountain Zone set to begin Aug. 30, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game is informing hunters that they can exchange tags there for another zone at any Fish and Game office prior to opening day.
   About 70 percent of the zone (Game Management Units 43,44 and 48) has been closed due to the Beaver Creek, McCan and Pony Complex fires.
   The next hunts affected by the closure area are a controlled deer hunt in Unit 44, which opens Sept. 15, and controlled bull elk hunts opening Sept. 25.

Fundraiser set for wave project
   A fundraising party for the proposed Wood River Wave kayaking feature will take place at Mahoney’s Bar and Grill today, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
   The goal of the party is to raise enough money to hire a river park engineer to draft plans and give a cost estimate for the river park and wave’s construction on the Big Wood River in Bellevue.       Raffle tickets are $5 each or $20 for six. The list of prizes includes boating and rafting supplies and fishing equipment.
   Seven kegs of beer have been donated. They will be tapped by 4 p.m. Music will include the local group Mark Oliver Trio, and a main act from Boise, called StoneSeed. Music starts at 6:30. For more information, go to www.woodriverwave.com.

Where fashion and cancer meet
   What happens when a fashion designer meets breast cancer? Faced with a new body image after two mastectomies, fashion designer Lynne Hanson embarked on a quest to redefine and clothe her new body.
   Hanson will be at the Community Library to share stories and revelations of the journey that she chronicled in her book “Do You Think I Need to Wear Boobs with This Dress?” now out in bookstores.
   Iconoclast Books is hosting the event at the library in Ketchum on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m.
   Hanson has brought with her the dress form that she created that is featured on the front of the book and it will be auctioned off for Expedition Inspiration, a fundraising organization for breast cancer research.
   The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
