Courthouse roof project postponed

Clerk and recorder remain in old building

A project to replace the roof on the old Blaine County Courthouse, originally planned to start June 1, has been postponed, and the Clerk’s and Recorder’s offices remain in operation in the building.

On Tuesday, county commissioners rejected a proposal for the job filed jointly by Ketchum-based Engelmann Inc. and Boise-based Scott Hedrick Construction.

“At this point, the county’s deciding whether they’re going to put it out again for bid,” county Operations Director Char Nelson said Wednesday.

The project, which could cost up to $800,000, will be funded through the county’s capital improvements fund. It is expected to take three to four months.

In anticipation, the county commissioners and county administrator have already moved their offices temporarily to the county annex building across the street, though County Commission meetings are still taking place in the old courthouse.

The County Operations Department has moved to the McBride Building on the corner of First and Walnut streets.

“We put the Clerk’s Office on hold,” Nelson said.
