Several Wood River Valley youth soccer players have logged plenty of travel time this spring traveling to Boise for practices with club teams.

Their reward was the satisfaction of earning medals with teams that either won their divisions or finished high during the Idaho Youth Soccer Association’s Idaho State Cup tournament staged May 24-27 in Idaho Falls and Boise.

In Boise last weekend, Wood River High School graduating senior Trevor Brand helped the Boise Nationals Soccer Club Premier boys to the championship of the U-18 division competing with four other teams.

At Idaho Falls, Hailey’s Taylor Koth was a member of the Boise Nationals Arsenal U-13 boys who dominated their six-team division and went undefeated in four games—winning their games 8-0, 7-1, 8-1 and 9-0 for a goals-against of 32-2. Koth scored the first goal with a header in an 8-1 semi-final win.

Jesse Cole scored three goals for the Idaho Rush Soccer Club U-14 girls’ squad that also captured first place with five wins by scores of 1-0, 4-0, 2-1, 2-0 and 2-1 over Idaho Torrent of Boise in the State Cup championship.

Lilly Jenner, a member of the Community School girls’ soccer team, played for the Boise Nationals U-15 girls who secured third place with a 1-0 overtime shootout win over Idaho Torrent. Jenner scored a shootout goal for the winners, who boasted a 3-2 record and won two of their tournament games by scores of 2-0.
