Nice holiday weather boosted the turnout for the third annual Redfish Lake Lodge Memorial Run from 177 last year to 276 on Saturday, May 25. Some of Idaho’s best adult and youth runners took part—and many looking for holiday recreation.

There were 59 finishers in the 13.1-mile half marathon paced by 19-year-old Adam Wollant of Bozeman, Mt. in 1.14:12. Placing second was Jake Renz, 28, of Ketchum in 1.21:51. Fourth place went to Wood River High School state track and field qualifier Alexis Gonzalez, 16, a junior-to-be timed in 1.32:24.

Wood River-area female runners fared particularly well in the half marathon—five in the top eight.

Leading the way was Stanley’s Gabby Reeves, 23, in 1.39:21, good for seventh overall. The second female, in ninth place overall was Wood River High boys’ track coach Heather Miller, 39, of Ketchum in 1.42:50. Lauren Hunter, 30, was third in 1.49:51 and Julie Pendleton, 35, fifth in 1.53:49.

The 10-kilometer winner was 17-year-old Jerome High School incoming senior Erik Nordquist in 41:45. Top female, leading a 1-2-3 Wood River sweep, was Jena Greaser, 27, in 43:34 ahead of Emily Olsen, 25, in 44:26 and Sara Burns, 36, in 44:36.

Hailey’s Dave Keir, 44, placed third of 128 runners in the 5k race at 22:12 behind winner Nate Nordquist, 14, of Jerome (19:43). The women’s 5k winner was Gadrie Edmunds, 37, in 24:38, good for 10th place overall.

Saturday start time for SV Half Marathon

The ninth annual Sun Valley Half Marathon sponsored by the Wood River YMCA is Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m. starting and finishing the 13.1-mile course on the lawn next to the Sun Valley Resort Pavilion. There are also 10k and 5k races.

Race packets can be picked up Friday, May 31 from 2-6 p.m. at the YMCA located in Ketchum at Warm Springs and Saddle roads. On race day, parking will be available in the lot across Dollar Rd. from pavilion.

A festive Kids’ Zone will be open during and after the half marathon for family members of runners to enjoy. The kids’ races will include several mini-race options. They will be staged at 11:30 a.m. around the Kids’ Zone area. Visit sunvalleyhalfmarathon.com for more details.

Last year there were 100 half marathoners led by Joseph Gray (1.14:50) and Shannon Deboer (1.37:34).

Adams Gulch Run is June 8

The 36th edition of The Elephant Perch’s Adams Gulch Run is Saturday, June 8 on a 4.2-mile course starting and finishing near the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood on Saddle Rd. across from the Wood River YMCA parking lot in Ketchum. It starts at 10 a.m.

Organizers will record finishing times at the end of the free family-oriented event. There will be no prizes given.

Last June on a cold, rainy and snowy morning in Ketchum, there were 39 runners paced by 22-year-old Taylor Sundali (24:44) and Chelsea Holmes (29:17).
