Eight months after the retirement of former Utilities Manager Steve Hansen, Ketchum has hired a former consultant to lead its public works and engineering departments.
When Hansen retired, City Administrator Gary Marks told the Idaho Mountain Express that the city planned to hire a full-time public works director and city engineer to replace the utilities manager position. He said having an in-house engineer would save the city about $3,400 a year. The Water Department and Wastewater Department heads, who previously worked directly under Hansen, have made the day-to-day public works decisions in the interim.
The new director, Robyn Mattison, graduated in 2003 from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where she earned a master’s degree in civil engineering. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
“I am honored to be selected to lead Ketchum’s talented public works and engineering teams and to be a part of such a great city,” she said. “I look forward to working with the citizens and businesses of Ketchum to move the city forward for the future.”
According to a news release from the city, Mattison designed many of the elements of Ketchum’s wastewater system when she worked as a consultant. She has been involved in several other public works projects throughout the West, including in California, Idaho and Nevada.
“[Mattison] demonstrates a passion for engineering, professionalism and integrity in conduct and is well familiar with our community and the state of Idaho,” said Mayor Randy Hall. “Robyn will be a great leader for our public works staff and a valuable addition to our city’s management team.”
