Ketchum celebrates building projects

Mayor salutes developers for beautifying city

Ketchum Mayor Randy Hall presented at a City Council meeting on May 20 plaques of recognition to six city business or property owners for recently renovating seven buildings in the city.
“I hope you all know how important it is as city leaders to see investment in this town,” he said.
Hall said that the worst part of the recent economic recession is now in the “rear-view mirror” and that business and property owners who have this year given “facelifts” to some of the city’s buildings should be recognized for doing so.
Hall gave plaques of recognition to:
Bigwood Bread, owned by George and Rita Golleher, for improving a building in the city’s downtown core at 380 East Ave. that this summer will become a satellite café for the business. He also noted that the company recently broke ground on a new bakery in the city’s light-industrial area, across the street from the current location.
Lee Gilman Builders Inc., owned by John Lee, Mike Gilman and Nick Gilman, and located at 480 Second Ave., for renovating and preserving the historic building there, which appears on a plat map dated 1887.
Post Apocalypse Trading Post Gallery at 151 Sun Valley Road, where Hailey artist Tom Teitge recently opened a gallery after improving the building’s façade and interior.
The Station building, owned by Ketchum-based PK Ventures LLC., and located at the intersection of Sun Valley Road and East Avenue, for improvements currently being made to the building.
Sturtevants Mountain Outfitters, owned by Olin Glenne and Ben Jacobson, and located at 340 Main St., and to building owners Rob Santa and Alex Orb for improvements made to the structure.
And to Velocio Café, owned by Jack Bariteau and Stephanie Olson, and located in the Colonnade building at the intersection of Sun Valley Road and Walnut Avenue, for remodeling the former Tully’s coffee shop.
“Thank you for investing in our community,” Hall said. “If you added up all those projects the total would be in the millions of dollars.”

Hall also recognized at the meeting Ketchum Fire Department Captain Tom Ancona for his “instrumental” service since 1985. “You’ve provided a lot of value to the city and I wanted to thank you for that personally by giving you one of these,” Hall said as he presented Ancona a plaque of recognition.
