Golf pros meet at Pinecrest for Pro-Pro Shootout

54-hole tournament in Idaho Falls

Forty-two teams each comprised of two golf professionals gave a kick-start to the Rocky Mountain PGA Snake River Chapter competition season May 20-21 at Pinecrest Golf  Club in Idaho Falls.

They played 54 holes in the TaylorMade-adidas and Ashworth Golf PGA Pro-Pro Shootout. Formats on Monday, May 20 were four-ball stroke play and scramble. Format Tuesday was modified alternate shot.

Winning the 30-team Regular Division for $2,825 was the twosome of Travis Hofland of Twin Falls, the assistant golf pro at Twin Falls Golf Club, and Brett Kleinkopf of Boise, the PGA assistant professional at Hillcrest Golf Club in Boise.

Their scores were 64-62-67 for 17-under-par 193, but the winners needed to come from behind and then make a birdie on the first playoff hole against second-place John Shaw of Jackpot (Nev.) Golf Club and Zach Abels of Canyon Springs Golf Club in Twin Falls ($2,150).

The Senior Men’s winners for $1,800 at 1-under-par 194 (67-61-66) were Boise State University golf coach Kevin Burton and John Wallace, head golf pro at Meridian’s Lakeview Golf Course.

Sun Valley’s Pro Men tourney is canceled

The Rocky Mountain PGA has announced on its Web site that the annual Sun Valley Resort/Elkhorn Golf Club Pro Men’s 36-hole golf tournament originally scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29 has been canceled this year.

“Due to harsh course conditions caused by winter,” the tournament has been canceled, the Web site explained.

Sun Valley Resort director of golf Rick Hickman said he was hopeful the tournament could be played at a later date.  Hickman confirmed that the Idaho Golf Association Tournament of Champions will still be played Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29 at Sun Valley Resort‘s Elkhorn Golf Club.

The only Rocky Mountain PGA Snake River Chapter event planned locally for 2013 is The Valley Club Pro Men’s 18-hole tourney Friday, Sept. 13.
