Middle school track winds up in Twin Falls

Solid strides by young Wolverines


     Wood River Middle School track and field coaches expressed pride at the achievements of the young athletes during a season that ended with the Magic Valley Conference meet May 14 at Canyon Ridge High School, Twin Falls.

     Placing first in the seventh-grade discus event with a personal-record throw of 98-0 feet was Wood River’s Victor Saldivia. Another seventh grader, Stella Barsotti, won high ump at the conference meet. There were also many second places.

     Here are the other top conference placings, by grade:

     · 8th grade boys: 4—Medley relay (Brendan Bingham, Sam Johnson, John Quinones, Kenny Pratt).

     · 8th grade girls: 2—Pilar Pennell 100-meter high hurdles, Amy Cantrell 800m run and 4x100m relay (Pennell, Kendall Piggins, Chandler Wakefield, Gina Pulleiro). 4—Amy Cantrell triple jump, Amy Cavallo 200m dash and medley relay (Cantrell, Michelle Casas, Tess Burchmore, Anna Weiderrick).

     · 7th grade boys: 2—Taylor Koth 1200m run. 4—Taylor Koth 400m dash and Victor Saldivia shotput.

     · 7th grade girls: 2—Dakota Hutton long jump, Kirsys Campbell 800m. 4—Dakota Hutton 200m dash, 4x100m relay (Hutton, Cassidy Carter, Maddie Austin, Lydia Cuellar) and medley relay (Kodiann Heyrend, Anne-Marie Deffe, Dylan Porth, Josie Zamora).
