Sun Valley Suns hockey player Danny Ward went top shelf, hit nothing but net, belted one over the wall and pulled down a long TD pass.

Actually, it was just a hole-in-one—but a special ace.

Ward won a 2013 Ford Fiesta for making his ace on the 160-yard No. 2 hole at The Valley Club during Saturday’s third annual James Nelson Memorial golf tournament. Silver Creek Auto of Hailey provided the prize. Power Engineers also sponsored the benefit tourney.

There was a tie at 63 for the winning scramble teams among 19 in the total field.

Danny Ward was on one of the winning foursomes, along with Matt Ward, Daniel Hollis and Tom Osenton. The other winning team consisted of Kenny Ward, Jack Sholtis, Rico Albright and Mike Levy.

Other special prizes in the golf tournament fundraiser for the Wood River Baseball and Softball Association (WRBSA):

TJ Peterson won Longest Drive.  Jimmy Conlon won the Closest to the Pin. The team with the highest score (worst) featured Harold, Brian, Kyle and Blake Nelson with a 76.

Proceeds benefited the WRBSA and the Zachary and Andrew Nelson College Fund.

Staged by the WRBSA for 10 years, the benefit golf gathering for a third year was named for longtime valley baseball supporter James Nelson, who died March 19, 2011 at 42.

He was the youngest brother of five boys in Ray and Marian Nelson’s Hailey family that founded the Ray Nelson Little League baseball tournament in the early 1970s.

Check next week’s Local Life for more tournament photos.
