People and Places

    ( Lt./Paramedic Charlie Butterfield of Wood River Fire & Rescue recently achieved the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress’s certification of Fire Officer 1. Butterfield is the first firefighter of all fire agencies in Blaine County to achieve this level of certification. He has been a firefighter in the Wood River Valley for more than 17 years and also holds a bachelor’s degree in fire and emergency services administration from Colorado State University.

   ( Elsa W. Sweek of Hailey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with honors, magna cum laude, at Lewis & Clark College’s commencement ceremony May 18 in Portland, Ore.
   While at Lewis & Clark, Elsa was a member of the Cappella Nova choral group that will go on international tour to Egypt at the end of May. Sweek plans to travel in the summer before moving back to Portland in the fall to work.
   A graduate of Wood River High School class of 2009, Sweek is the daughter of Bege Reynolds and John Sweek.

   ( Brita Gaeddert of Hailey participated as an ensemble member in the Linfield College production of “Spring Awakening” May 2-5 and May 9-11 at the McMinnville, Ore., college. A daughter of John and Claudia Gaeddert, she is a junior majoring in economics. She has been involved in past Linfield shows including “Lend Me a Tenor.” Gaeddert is a 2010 Wood River High School graduate.
