Woman injured in collision with deer

Wildlife collisions continue at high rate in county

    A 28-year-old Bellevue woman was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River after her vehicle collided with a deer Monday morning on U.S. Highway 20 near its intersection with Gannett Road.
   Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey said Angela Hartley was apparently not seriously injured but complained of back pain. She was taken to the hospital by Wood River Fire & Rescue ambulance.
   Ramsey said the accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. when Hartley, eastbound in a 1996 Honda Accord, collided with the deer when it ran in front of her.
   Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,000.
   “The deer got up and ran away,” Ramsey said, adding that “a lot of times they will run off and die later.”
   Vehicle-versus-wildlife collisions, particularly deer and elk, occur at a rate of two to three a week in Blaine County.
