Judges put Express at the ‘pinnacle’

Newspaper earns 43 awards in Idaho Press Club contest

By EXPRESS STAFF

The Idaho Mountain Express won 43 awards for excellence in journalism Saturday at the Idaho Press Club’s annual awards banquet, including the Pinnacle Award, which is given to media organizations that earn more individual awards than any of their competitors in the state.
The club—the primary press association in Idaho—awarded the Express third place in the General Excellence category, which judges newspapers on writing, originality, viewer interest and enterprise.
The club’s Best of 2012 awards recognized excellence in print, television, public relations and radio journalism done throughout the state in 2012. Express staff accepted awards for newspaper reporting, editorial writing, photography, sports writing, website design and newspaper design at the event in downtown Boise. It earned all three awards given in three categories, editorial writing, graphics and sports news reporting. Reporter Brennan Rego won first place in the First Amendment category, in which dailies and non-dailies compete for recognition for work in upholding the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Sun Valley Guide magazine, published by the newspaper’s parent company, Express Publishing, earned four additional awards in magazine competition, including first place in the General Excellence category.
“I’m proud that the judges recognized so many employees of the Express,” said Editor Greg Foley. “It’s a testament to the hard work that everyone on the newspaper and magazine staff puts in each and every week.”
