Ketchum broadband consultant to speak

City to hold meetings for stakeholders this week

    Ketchum is holding a series of meetings this week for residents, businesses and telecommunications providers to meet with representatives of the city’s recently hired broadband planning consultant, Miami-based Magellan Advisors.
   “Ketchum, realizing that broadband is one of the most important factors enabling businesses and communities to succeed in the new global digital economy, is embarking on a study to better understand the economic and social impact a coordinated community broadband planning effort would bring to our community,” states a recent news release from the city.
   The city will host a “business stakeholder lunch” on Wednesday, May 15, at noon at Ketchum City Hall. On Thursday, May 16, at 11:30 a.m., the City Council will hold a joint special meeting with the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and Urban Renewal Agency. At that meeting, Magellan will present an overview of the process that the city’s Broadband Strategic Planning Committee is currently undertaking to develop a broadband strategic plan for the future of the city’s Internet infrastructure. The city will then hold a “resident stakeholder meeting” on Thursday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Ketchum City Hall.
   The city established the committee in November to identify the city’s high-speed Internet needs and develop the plan. Based on the committee’s recommendation, the city hired Magellan in March for $24,500 to help the committee develop the plan. According to a project timeline from Magellan, the firm expects to have a final version of the plan ready to present to the council sometime after July 26.
   “Through this effort, the city will assemble a long-term strategy that will bolster economic development, reinforce existing businesses, and create new jobs,” the release states.
