Vote for Kathy Baker

The chairman of a School District board is much like a CEO: the buck stops there.  So let’s review.
The district, with Mr. Guthrie at the helm of the board:
l Has become embroiled in a “he said-she said” lawsuit, which may not have happened with proper oversight and is now costing taxpayers a great deal of money in legal fees.
l Has approved some of the highest district office-level administrator salaries in the entire state, despite the fact that our district’s performance as measured by SAT scores and Idaho’s own Standard Achievement Test (ISAT) is just average.  (See test results for all Idaho districts at www.sde.idaho.gov.)
l Approved a textbook selection process that was so flawed that it did not even conform to the district’s own written policies, a fact that Mr. Guthrie himself admitted.
l When made aware of the fact that the textbook selection process blatantly ignored the district’s own written policy, rather than take steps to correct the process, Mr. Guthrie and the board proceeded to complete the purchase, over the valid objections of many parents.
l Regarding the last two points, it was because of Kathy Baker’s capabilities and tenacity that the flawed textbook selection was brought to the attention of the administration and the board.  Kathy spent an enormous amount of time becoming informed about district policy and state laws governing education, and will continue this dedication as a member of the Blaine County School Board.
Additionally, through her regular attendance at school board meetings, Kathy already has a solid grasp of the responsibilities and processes involved with being a board member. Further, her day-to-day involvement with the Hailey Elementary PTA gives her an even better grasp of what is happening in our classrooms.
Clearly, Kathy is the best choice.  Please vote for Kathy Baker.
