Bike path is a community asset

    I moved to the Wood River Valley more than 35 years ago and have been involved with the Blaine County Recreation District as a board member and volunteer because I am passionate about its mission and the programs it sponsors. That is why I am writing in support of the two-year levy on May 21 to repave the bike path. As owner of the Elephant’s Perch, I also know that providing high-quality recreational amenities is an important economic driver.
   After almost 30 years, the bike path needs an overhaul and, with well over 300,000 annual users, it allows physical activity to be built into our daily routine. We all know that exercise is one of the keys to a healthier life. Our Wood River Trail creates healthy recreation and transportation opportunities by providing people of all ages with an attractive and accessible place to bike, walk, hike, jog or ski.
   I hope you will vote “yes” on May 21 for the Rec District’s two-year $3.5 million levy to preserve this community asset.
