Baker is right choice for school board

Kathy Baker is an intelligent, hard-working mother of three who is running for the Zone 2 School Board position.  Kathy has been very active in our school district, from Hailey Elementary PTA to initiating the science fair to bringing clarity to the new math curriculum.  Please visit her website to see a complete list of her accomplishments:
Her opponent, Steve Guthrie, represents the status quo and his campaign is being actively supported by district officials and former board members. That status quo brought us numerous disputes that are still being resolved by expensive lawyers, underhanded levy election tactics, the most highly paid school officials in the state, the most money spent per pupil of any district in the state (almost in the entire U.S.) and mediocre student test results.
Mr. Guthrie has repeatedly said he thinks officials are doing a great job and deserve yearly raises, extended contracts and extremely generous benefits.  We strongly disagree.  Our school district is the recipient of the largest share of our property taxes but remains our most unaccountable organization. It’s time for our school board to listen to the public and change their methods.  Adding a new board member, Kathy Baker, would be an excellent first step in that process.
Kathy is well aware of the problems within our school district and will work to correct them. She is also aware of the programs and employees in the district that are working well, and will support and strengthen them. She is very good at building consensus within a group and will be an excellent addition to our school board.

Spence and Barbara Browning live in Blaine County.
