Vote ‘yes’ for bike path project

    I am writing in support of the May 21 ballot initiative to restore and repair the bike path. The levy will be for two years only.
   I support this initiative for three reasons:
1. A recent audit showed that more than 300,000 users benefit from the bike path. Just this weekend I saw bikers, hikers, walkers and folks with strollers. I also saw the cracks, the seams coming apart, the erosion of the asphalt.
2. I’m really concerned about user safety. The separation of the path from Highway 75 is critical for safety. Making sure I don’t fall off my bike and break an arm because of some root protrusion is also critical.
3. The bike path is an important link between Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey and Bellevue and helps realize that we are really part of one community.
   I personally know how welcome the Hulen Meadows bike path extension was in 1983-1984. Before it was paved, I once slid my bike and crashed with my son Brian in the “baby seat.” What a mess that was, and without an upgrade, it will be a mess again.
   I urge you to vote “yes” on May 21 to keep this very important corridor fixed and maintained.
