Zenergy gals aim for Boise bodybuilding meet

This Saturday

From left, Zenergy bodybuilding and figure competitors who have been training for six months for an upcoming meet are, from left, Shanon Christensen, Tiffany Larson, Marisol Avelar, Nicole Kashino, Diane Calevro, Natalia Tekiela and Aurelie Bayer. Other women who have been training are Maggie Howard and Kim McCammon.

Ketchum’s Zenergy Health Club will send six women competitors to the 21st annual NGA Northwest Natural Pro-Atlas Bodybuilding and Figure Championships on Saturday, April 26 at Borah High School auditorium in Boise.
Friday’s schedule starting at 5:30 p.m. calls for pre-judging and finals for all Novice figure and amateur classes. On Saturday, the pre-judging begins at 9 a.m. culminating with the 5 p.m. awards show in men’s and women’s Bodybuilding, Pro, Physique and Bikini classes.
Zenergy had nine women training very hard in its six-month “Figure” program with six of them aiming to compete. The women ranged in ages from 28 to 57. They started with a three-day-a-week program and worked up to six days of twice-daily training.
Zenergy marketing director Kerry Samudio said, “Stepping out of the comfort zone and on to a stage in a bikini and heels with an audience of hundreds is just part of the motivation needed to stick to this rigorous but rewarding weight training and nutrition plan.”
Coach and trainer is Yvette Hubbard.
Competitors headed for Boise are Marisol Avelar, 28; Aurelie Bayer, 33; Diane Calevro, 57; Shanon Christensen, 40; Nicole Kashino, 39; and Natalia Tekiela, 35. Training but not competing are Maggie Howard, 29; Tiffany Larson, 46; and Kim McCammon, 37.
Samudio added, “The women have lost an average of 5.5% body fat. Competition body comp will be between 8 and 12% per girl. But, when all is said and done, the women will settle in at a beautiful, healthy range of 15% or a little higher. This is important for bone density and skin health.
“Improved self-esteem, a feeling of empowerment, healthy hearts and minds are all benefits of this program. And these girls will have the ability and knowledge to maintain their fitness level through exercise and nutrition.”
Last year, Zenergy’s Emily Knowles came home with the overall title of Women's Middleweight Bodybuilding champion as well as three other trophies, and Heather Miller took second in Women's Figure.
