BCSD summer school starts July 15

Brush up on reading, math

    For some Blaine County School District students, summer means attendance at summer school to brush up on reading and math skills.
   District Communications Director Heather Crocker said that once students are identified who need assistance, teachers will send home notices and registration information by about the middle of May.
   This year’s summer school schedule for district elementary students is from July 15 through Aug. 9 at Woodside Elementary School. Classes will run from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
   Because of construction planned for Hemingway Elementary School this summer, those students too will attend summer school at Woodside. Crocker said transportation will be provided.
   Summer school at Carey School runs from July 15 through Aug. 2. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
   Credit recovery classes and Idaho Digital Learning Academy online courses will be held at Wood River Middle School and Wood River High School from July 15 through Aug. 9 and at Carey School from July 15 through Aug. 2.
   Crocker said new this year to Wood River High School are senior projects, where students have the opportunity to focus on advance placement classes, college applications and preparation for college entrance exams.
   “This option is also helpful for student athletes, including students on ski teams,” Crocker said. “Carey School has always done senior projects during the summer for similar reasons.”
