Flair for drama at Camp Little Laugh

Improv and more in the great outdoors

A local theatre group is offering two camp options this year for kids with a flair for the dramatic.
Ketchum’s nexStage Theatre is offering both day camps and an overnight camp this summer for kids ages 7-and-up.
For kids 9-and-up, there is Camp Little Laugh, Laughing Stock Theatre Company’s sleep-away camp from Sunday through Friday, Aug. 4-9.
This is the camp’s second year at Camp Sawtooth, located eight miles north of Ketchum near the SNRA headquarters.
Laughing Stock Theater Company has entertained local audiences with live shows in the valley since 1977.
In 1989, Laughing Stock started its first summer camp for kids called “Camp Little Laugh.” The 2013 edition will be its 25th annual summer camp.
Little Laugh features a traditional camp experience within a week of theatrical classwork in mime, improvisation, acting, art, dance and music.
Chill time offers recreational games, hiking and campfires. In the evenings campers enjoy lip-syncing, performing skits, or having fun dancing.
Price is $850. Scholarships and payment plans are available. A grand finale performance is Friday, Aug. 9 at the nexStage Theatre.
Another offering is Summer Stages Day Camp, back at the Community School campus from July 1-19.
This camp provides a venue for young people ages 7 and up to exercise their imaginations and grow in wonderful and unexpected ways. The final free performance is also at the nexStage Theatre in Ketchum.
This theater day camp will focus on theater arts on and off-stage. Classes will include acting, improvisation, art, stage combat, dance and music. Kids will also have the opportunity to design and build sets, costumes and props.
Professional theater artists from the Northwest lead all of the classes. The camp is divided by age groups, with each group deciding whether to choose a script or write their own.
Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Scholarships and payment plans are available. A $100 deposit is required at sign-up.
For details and reservations on either camp call 726-9124.
