School District wins ‘Sunny Award’

Sunshine Review honors website transparency

The Blaine County School District is one of 247 governmental entities in the United States that was recently honored by the Sunshine Review for transparency on their websites.
School Board Chairman Steve Guthrie announced receipt of the Sunshine Review’s Sunny Award at a board of trustees meeting on April 9.
The award is the result of a review of the district website in 2012 by the Sunshine Review, a nonprofit government watchdog organization headquartered in Alexandria, Va. In order to receive a Sunny Award, the governmental entity had to score an A in its review.
The Blaine County School District scored an A- and was one of only three school districts in Idaho receiving an A grade. The others were the Boise School District with an A+ and the Caldwell School District with an A-.
“Blaine County School District knows the importance of promoting transparency in everything we do,” Guthrie stated in a news release. “We are honored to receive a Sunny Award and will continue to empower citizens by providing the necessary information to keep them informed on the actions their government is taking on their behalf.”
Michael Barnhart, president of Sunshine Review, praised the district in the news release: “We would like to congratulate the Blaine County School District for being a champion for transparency and serving as a leader to every state and local government around the nation.”
