Take time

For free reading of the play “Time Stands Still”

By EXPRESS STAFF

The play “Time Stands Still” follows a photojournalist who returns home injured from the battlefields of Iraq after years of dashing among conflict zones.
When her reporter boyfriend makes a pitch for domesticity, Sarah Goodwin must choose between the thrilling but dangerous life she craves and the physically safe but emotionally perilous life she doesn’t quite understand.
Set in a Brooklyn loft against a backdrop of global strife, Donald Margulies’s Tony-nominated play depicts the intimate conflicts of a long-term relationship and the ethical struggles of a high-risk career.
The public is invited to watch as Company of Fools actors Beth Hilles, Keith Moore, Denise Simone and Joel Vilinsky, under the direction of core member John Glenn, bring the story to life in a free reading on Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in Ketchum.
“When I look through that little rectangle, time stops. It just ... all the noise around me ... everything cuts out. And all I see is the picture,” says character Goodwin.
The reading is part of the Sun Valley Center’s multidisciplinary project “Home Front,” running until May 25. The exhibit examines the ways that people recover from and communities respond to the realities of war.
The play is part of a larger conversation on the topic that has included lectures by war novelist Tim O’Brien and Admiral Jay L. Johnson, a panel discussion last week among people representing the various facets of war and art created by and with veterans, which is on display in both the Ketchum and Hailey galleries.
Margulies is an American playwright and a professor of English and Theater Studies at Yale University. In 2000, he received the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
