Woman gets probation in drug fraud case

A former medical secretary for a Ketchum doctor has been placed on probation for three years for the felony crime of illegally obtaining prescription medicine.

Sentence for Cinda Sue Anderson, 53, was pronounced Monday by Judge Robert Elgee in Blaine County 5th District Court.

Anderson, who had remained free on bond, pleaded guilty in January to “obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and/or forgery.” In exchange for her guilty plea, a second count of the same charged was dismissed per a plea agreement with the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Anderson was charged with the crimes in November following a lengthy investigation by the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office. Detective Corey Weatherly wrote in a probable-cause affidavit that Anderson filled the same prescriptions for Alprazolam at two drug stores on several occasions and that she faxed the orders to the stores without the authorization of Dr. Kenneth Brait, in whose office she worked.

Alprazolam, available under the trade name Xanax, is used to treat panic and anxiety disorders.

Anderson is also facing a misdemeanor DUI charge in Blaine County Magistrate Court for allegedly driving intoxicated on Jan. 5. She has pleaded not guilty and a jury trial is scheduled to begin on April 23.

According to court records, Anderson was also convicted of misdemeanor DUI in Blaine County in 2002 and 2012.
