Bellevue council to reduce public meetings

Leaders plan to meet third Monday of month

The Bellevue City Council voted Thursday to reduce by half the number of its meetings each month, and to meet on Monday nights at 6 p.m., rather than on Thursdays.

A final vote on a new ordinance that would implement the change will take place on Monday, April 15, at a special meeting.

City Clerk Dee Barton outlined reasons for the change Thursday, saying it would save money on staff time and City Hall energy costs, and allow the City Council more time to review the packet of information they discuss before meetings.

Barton said the council would receive the packets on Wednesday and have time to review the material before meetings on Monday.

“It takes a full day for staff to run the packets,” she said.

( The Fire Department signed a new and separate auto-aid agreement with the Hailey Fire Department that would cover structure fires, vehicle fires, wildland fires, avalanche rescue, bomb threats and explosions, fire alarms outside fires, hazardous materials incidents, mass casualty incidents, mudslides and motor vehicle accidents.

“It will give us more call volume and use of our guys’ training. It will be one more step toward working together with Hailey,” Fire Chief Greg Beaver said.

( The Bellevue Marshal’s Office accepted the resignation of Cpl. Rene Rodriguez due to medical reasons.
